ProBlogger by Darren Rowse and Chris Garret

I was recently asked about my feelings about the book ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging your Way to a Six-Figure Income by Darren Rowse and Chris Garret.

I'd mentioned in a previous post that I had decided to bite the bullet and get the book. I had been blogging for a while and I wanted to take my blogging to the next level.

A reader wrote in because he has been considering buying the book and he wanted to know what I felt after reading through the book.

I found it a good read--especially for those who are newer to blogging. In my attempts to learn about blogging, I had already picked up much information along the way. In fact, I didn't realize how much I knew until I read ProBlogger.

Many of the insights shared in the book were strategies I had implemented at my blogs and I discovered new blogging insights that I plan on giving consideration to, as time permits.

But to get back to the readers query, what were my thoughts about the book? I decided to create this post to shed light on ProBlogger for those trying to decide whether to actually buy the book.

The book discusses monetization methods, which I found helpful. A blogger has to understand how to monetize a blog in order to earn income from it. Darrena and Chris also discuss freelance blogging and actually building blogs and flipping them. They detail niche blogging and why these types of blogs are successful, and how to choose a niche for your blog.

ProBlogger also covers content and how to format it for easy reading and scanning, which most blog visitors do.

Here's a break down of some of the chapters:

  • Blogging for Money
  • Niche Blogging
  • Setting Up Your Blog
  • Blog Writing
  • Blog income and Earning Strategies
  • Buying and Selling Blogs
  • Blog Promotion and Marketing
The book is valuable to seasoned bloggers because they can check that they have everything in place.

Overall it's a good book. I would suggest that a blogger go through each chapter and select those steps he or she needs to implement so that blogs are up and running in the ways suggested in ProBlogger.

Will you get rich from blogging if you buy ProBlogger? probably not. Will you earn from your blogs by using Darren and Chris's tips? Yes. As with any undertaking, those who reap rewards are those who are willing to do the ground work.

My final thoughts on ProBlogger is it is a helpful resource, a good book to have in your home library.

Blogging . . .

In my last post, I related that I'd finally gotten off my laurels and ordered my own copy of PROBLOGGER. Darren Rowse's book on how to grow a sizable income from blogging.

In every blogger's life, there comes the time when you've monetized, tweaked and formatted your blog--getting it to where you want it to be. Then, you stand back and scratch your head, wondering what more to do.

Blogging is a learning experience, no doubt about it. If you've put the work into your blog, it only makes sense to reap the rewards.

I've learned so much from other bloggers and from scouring the Net; but, I figured, if I wanted to take blogging to the next level, it was time to invest a little something to help to keep the momentum going.

I made myself a promise when I started my blogs:
1) They wouldn't cost me a penny.
2)I would not invest in anything until I had made a sufficient amount from blogging to warrant the expenditure.

I've now reached that point and am happy to take things up a notch!

Blogging Secrets for Making a Big Income

Well, I finally bit the bullet and ordered Darren Rowse's
"PROBLOGGER--Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income."

I'd already heard of Darren's successes with blogging--and I make it a habit to regularly visit the ProBlogger site. I'd heard that Darren shared his blogging secrets in the book.

I decided that Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income was worth the investment and ordered my copy. It was my present to myself for the coming year.

Blogging Secrets
Darren gets down to business in the book. I particularly enjoyed his insights into how he experimented with blogging while working as a minister, juggling three jobs and studying. Hmmm . . . I thought, the multi-tasking of modern-day living ringing a familiar bell.

Darren relates how he basically stumbled across his secrets or methods for blogging in a hit-and-miss fashion; however, his successes captured his attention and he started to take the whole blogging thing seriously.

Darren implemented monetization efforts and these paid off.

When Darren hit a threshold of earning $20.00 per day, he realized that his blogging hobby had taken on a life of its own--in fact, things were shaping up so that his "hobby blogging" was turning itself into a part time income.

Thus encouraged, Darren started to work harder at his blogging, discovering usable blogging secrets along the way that propelled his earnings higher and higher.

He covers a number of important points in PROBLOGGER--Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income:

* Chapter 9: Secrets of Successful Blogs
* How to increase pageviews and why this is important
* Keywords and how to use them effectively
* Link Baiting
* Chapter 8: Blog Promotion and Marketing
* Chapter 5: Blog Income and Earning Strategies

That last item is my favorite chapter, by the way. I bought this book because my blogs are gaining momentum and I wanted to boost my earnings.

As you become more familiar with blogging, certain names cross your path, over and over again. After a while, you know who the successful bloggers are: John Chow, Yaro Starak, Darren Rowse, to name a few.

This book is an essential tool of the trade if you are looking to grow your blogging income by learning usable blogging tactics and getting a handle on effective blogging secrets that will give you that coveted blogging expertise, that significant and necessary edge.

Great resource, Darren. 3 Thumbs up!

Hot Keywords

Using hot keywords can really make a different to your site visitors. But where the heck do you find them?

Resources for Hot Keywords
There are a couple of resources you can use to find hot keywords. One is the Yahoo Daily Hot Keyword Widget. It's a Yahoo widget that allows you to see the hottest searched keywords of the day.

If you are into search engine optimization, the daily Hot Keyword Widget can be a good tool that gives you easy access to needed information.

Another resource is Google Trends. Simply sign in to your Google account, go to Web History, find Google's Zeitgeist. Click on the links for Trends. You can choose from: Google Trends, Trends for Websites, Insights for Search or, my favorite, Hot Trends, which gives you the top 100 fastest rising search queries (U.S.).

Once you are armed with hot keywords you can plan accordingly.

Understanding Trackbacks

Trackbacks . . .

We've all heard about trackbacks; we know that we need them to increase traffic to our sites, but . . .

Trying to understand trackbacks is difficult at best. Now, I thought I had a good grasp of trackbacks until I tried to submit an article to a blog carnival. It asked for a trackback URL. Hmmm . . . where the heck did I find that?

I've looked around trying to find the goods on mysterious trackbacks and how the whole process works.

I came across The Ultimate Trackback Guide and would recommend it. Highly.

This, in my estimation, is one of the best resources about trackbacks I've come across.

If you're like me, you know you need to understand trackbacks. Now you can with this ultimate trackback guide.

Update on HubPages

Readers of this blog will be aware I'm a fan of HubPages.

I like that you can create pages which earn you income. I like that there are a number of ways you can earn income. I like that you can also earn income on pages others create.

I'll repeat that last sentence: you earn on pages others create. Does this pay off?

In today's update on HubPages, I'll relate what's working for me. So far I have 64 sign-ups! Each time one of those sign-ups creates a HubPage, I earn a little.

Now, I don't know about you, but I liken it to Looneys and Tooneys being dropped into a jar. You do the work once and it continues to pay off. While this may be small potatoes . . . it's still potatoes!

Another advantage of HubPages is that you can link (conservatively) to your other sites. This is a distinct advantage if you are seeking to bump up traffic.

Many Hubbers use their HubPages to send readers to their other pages in a symbiotic undertaking that pays off over the long term.

If you haven't checked out HubPages, you may decide this is a workable strategy to further your online income efforts.
